Now in our 3rd year, our annual talent show will take place on August 28, 2011 at the Millennium Bandstand on Unionville Main Street (located at the corner of Fred Varley Drive and Main Street Unionville). Featuring over 30 acts and special guest “Trading Hearts”, all proceeds will be donated to Charity:Water.  Our fundraising goal is $5000 to build a water well in a developing nation.

Over the years, Markham’s Got Talent provided showcasing opportunities to over 100 performers reaching thousands of supporters.  Not only did we have a large community outreach, but we were able to raise over $7000 for Pathways York Region, a youth homeless shelter.  The funds were used towards their “Home-Base Shelter”.

Through the display of talent in our community, we hope to strengthen the awareness and raise significant funds for issues pertaining to poverty. This one day benefit concert  features performers of all ages and caliber, gathering beneath Unionville’s open bandstand for a day of fun filled entertainment. Funds will accumulate from donations and through our voting system.

We specifically tailored our awards this year so that the community can become a prime contributor to the winners without sacrificing the quality of talent being awarded and create a desirable outcome for Charity:Water.  We were lucky enough to have judges from Ovation Arts to help us decide the 1st, 2nd, 3rdplace winners based on their degree of performance.

The audience are the ones who get to choose “Markham’s Favourite Performer”!  Audience members can vote for their favourite performer.  To do this, go to the “Voting Station” to purchase the ballots.  The performance act to have the most pledges and votes will be given this prestigious title.

We’ve also created spirit awards such as “Most Engaging” and “Most Charismatic” that will be decided by MGT.

Throughout the show, volunteers will be stationed around various points along the premise of our event, with the duty of informing the public about the issue of homeless youth and the importance of this event. Our creative forms of raising funds and promoting awareness ensures maximum benefit for our selected charities.
